Multiple fatalities have been reported and a suspect is in custody after a shooting at a Texas high school.
Santa Fe High School was placed on lockdown following an “incident involving an active shooter” on Friday morning, according to the school district. Assistant Principal Cris Richardson told reporters that one suspect had been arrested.
Law enforcement sources told local news outlets that at least eight people had been killed.
The district confirmed that there were multiple people injured at the school, located about 40 miles south of Houston.
Witnesses told several outlets they saw a girl shot in the leg, though these reports were not confirmed.
The University of Texas said patients from the school were en route to its medical branch in the area. The total number of patients was unknown.
A police officer was among those injured, according to Houston Police Officers Union President Joe Gamaldi.
