Actress Lynn Hamilton of “Sanford and Son” passed away at age 95
Now that one of television’s most graceful stars is no longer with us, she brought elegance, kindness, and quiet strength to our screens. At the age of 95, Lynn Hamilton, who was most famous for portraying the composed and affectionate Donna Harris on the classic comedy Sanford and Son from the 1970s, passed away.
For many fans, Lynn Hamilton was the center of every scene she touched, not merely Fred Sanford’s sweetheart. She had a poise that is uncommon to see on television these days, and her presence was both compassionate and forceful.

It was like viewing a familiar face—kind, genuine, and incredibly dignified—when you watched Lynn. We felt, laughed, and believed in a softer form of strength because of her.
In addition to her iconic roles on The Waltons and Sanford and Son, Lynn Hamilton established a stellar television career by making memorable appearances on a variety of well-liked programs. She established her mark in soap operas like Generations and Dangerous Women, contributed her talent to compelling dramas like Roots: The Next Generation, and infused sitcoms like The Golden Girls and 227 with charm. She also demonstrated her remarkable versatility and longevity on screen by appearing in the legal drama The Practice.

Rev. Calvin Carson, the renowned actress’s former publicist, revealed to Fox News Digital that she died on Thursday at her Chicago, Illinois, home from natural causes. On June 19, 2025, she passed away. On Instagram, Carson posted a moving statement from Hamilton’s family, stating that she was surrounded at the moment of her death by her grandchildren, loved ones, and caregivers. “We celebrate the extraordinary life of iconic actress Alzenia ‘Lynn’ Hamilton-Jenkins with deep gratitude and admiration, whose remarkable legacy continues to uplift and inspire,” the statement read. “Through her work as a model, stage, film, and television actress, she has inspired audiences worldwide, leaving an enduring impression on the entertainment industry over the course of her illustrious career that has spanned more than 50 years.”
The statement also said, “Although her passing signifies the end of an era, her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift future generations.”

Between November 1964 and August 2014, Lynn was married to poet and playwright Frank Jenkins for 49 years. Grandchildren and other close friends survive her. Every time she lights up the screen in a repeat, her legacy will continue to live on in our hearts. I hope she finds peace and rest.
