Nicole, who’s 58, and Keith, 57, got hitched back in June 2006 after a super-fast romance. But things weren’t all smooth sailing right from the start. Only a few months in, Nicole pulled off this intense intervention because Keith was battling some heavy drug and alcohol issues.
Keith opened up about it years later on Oprah in 2010, saying, “[Nicole] made a decision to turn around and initiate ultimately this intervention. But lately, things started falling apart. Sources say it kicked off after Nicole’s mom passed away in 2024. They weren’t spending much time together anymore.
One insider told Radar Online, “They do make a big effort to speak every day when they’re apart, but it’s quite shocking how much time they’ve spent apart since Nic’s mother died last September. It’s like they both went their separate ways and now she’s getting comfortable in a dream home in London on the other side of the world.”
Woman’s Day reported that Nicole’s been hanging out in London, renting this place in Hampstead from Boy George while shooting the sequel to Practical Magic. Meanwhile, Keith’s been on the road touring, away from Nicole and their girls, Sunday Rose (17) and Faith Margaret (14).
A source mentioned, “No one knows how long they can put up with this situation as they’ve always been diligent about not spending more than two weeks apart. Clearly that’s not the case anymore.”
Then, on September 30, it all went official—Nicole filed for divorce, blaming “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences,” per the docs from People. She didn’t spill more details there.
But the real bombshell? That prenup has a “cocaine clause.” Radar Online says it gives Keith $600,000 for every year they were married—as long as he stayed clean. After 19 years, that adds up to over $11 million.
Experts say these kinds of clauses aren’t super common, but they’re legit, especially if one person’s got a past with addiction. It was probably Nicole’s way of protecting herself while giving Keith a nudge to stay sober.
